Asal Releases New Album 'Kiss the Sun'
New York, NY (May 29, 2026) — Persian alt-pop artist Asal has released her new album Kiss the Sun, arriving ahead of her upcoming European headline tour and a newly announced run of U.S. dates this fall. The record, written and entirely self-recorded over the past year, captures one of the most personal chapters of her career to date, shaped by grief, memory, and the process of healing after the loss of her father.
Across Kiss the Sun, Asal moves between emotional extremes with striking fluidity—balancing melancholy and moments of uplift in a way she describes as “not fully happy, not fully sad.” The album unfolds like shifting daylight, pairing atmospheric, immersive production with intimate, direct songwriting. Influenced in part by her exploration of pre-revolution Iranian psychedelic rock, the project weaves nostalgia and modern alt-pop textures into a sound that feels both expansive and deeply personal.
At its center is a meditation on loss, love, and acceptance, with grief serving not as an endpoint but as a lens for understanding. Rather than avoiding difficult emotions, Asal leans into them, allowing space for reflection, forgiveness, and release.
"My dad is a big inspiration to me when it comes to music, and I lost him last year," Asal shares. "These songs came out of that time—trying to process everything, the ups and downs, and how I slowly came to understand him in a different way. I’m not angry anymore. Kiss the Sun is for him. Mersi Baba."
The album’s release will be followed by a series of select U.S. headline shows this fall, including performances at Thalia Hall in Chicago, Irving Plaza in New York City, and The Regent Theatre in Los Angeles. These dates arrive alongside an extensive European tour, with many shows already nearing capacity.
Asal’s rise has been marked by rapid momentum and global reach. Since her debut EP Missing Something, she has accumulated over 150 million streams and built an international audience through sold-out shows in cities including Los Angeles, London, Chicago, and New York. Early attention came with the breakout single “Liar’s & Players,” which led to a 30-date support tour with Artemas across Europe and North America. She has since expanded her profile through collaborations, including work with DJ and producer Marc Kinchen (MK), with their track “She’s in the Club” performed on the main stage at EDC Las Vegas.
Born in Iran and raised in Canada from the age of 11, Asal began writing music and learning guitar while adjusting to a new language and culture—an experience that continues to inform her perspective as an artist. With Kiss the Sun, she deepens that narrative, turning personal history into a widescreen emotional landscape that bridges past and present.
