JAY B Returns to Texas on the “tape: roots” Tour

EC Stanzel•

JAY B, the leader and main vocalist of GOT7, brought his “tape: roots” U.S. Tour to The Bomb Factory in Dallas on Sept. 25. The tour supports his third mini-album, TR.EE, and both titles share one concept: people and relationships grow like a tree, digging their roots deeper through personal growth and shared experiences. That idea fits JAY B’s return to the U.S. perfectly. Visa trouble and mismanagement derailed parts of his last tour here, so U.S. Ahgase (GOT7 fans) were thrilled when he decided to give things another go in 2026. This time around, everything came together, and Dallas got to experience a night to remember.

JAY B stepped on stage, and the crowd erupted the moment the spotlight hit him. He opened with “go UP,” slid straight into “The Way We Are,” and from there the vibes stayed high and alive ‘til the very end. Green Ahgabongs, the official GOT7 lightsticks, filled the venue, and the fanchants got loud, especially on “B.T.W.”

The set mixed solo hits, new TR.EE tracks, and GOT7 favorites, plus a preview of unreleased songs “Sweetie” and “Head to Toe.” JAY B clearly sang live all night, and his vocals stole the show, especially during new songs “Time” and “We” as well as “Dive into you,” his song from the soundtrack of the K-drama Crazy Love. “Hold onto My Back” and “Layback,” likely the most anticipated songs from his new release, drew some of the loudest cheers of the night. Both songs come with heavier choreography, and JAY B’s vocals stayed stable and powerful through every move.

The humor started before JAY B even hit the stage. The show featured multiple ads for his fictional cologne, Smells Like JAY B, and that was only the beginning. JAY B skipped the script and often let fans steer the talking segments between songs. Early on, he commented on the heat which drew a loud cheer, then quickly added, “not because of you guys, but because of me,” which got an even bigger laugh. Later, when he mentioned the tour had just one stop left, the crowd groaned, and he shot back, “Yes! Finally! I can eat kimchi jjigae!” This approach to talking ments led to chaos at times, but felt refreshing and far more authentic than the scripted ments at many K-pop shows.

At one point he called out the men in the audience, specifically the boyfriends and brothers who got dragged along to the show, and warned that things were about to get sexy for “Overflow” and “Count on me.” The warning came a little late, though, given how much heat JAY B had already brought to the stage. Another standout moment of the set was “Whiskey,” which JAY B introduced by asking who in the crowd was drinking and then raised a toast to fans several times during the song. He then closed the main set with the high-energy “Velvet Trigger,” the dance-heavy “Switch It Up,” and a big-finish performance of the unreleased “Head to Toe.”

For the encore, JAY B walked the floor of the venue giving out high fives, posing for selfies, and signing a few items for Ahgase during “Break it Down” and a reprise of “go UP.” Once he returned to the stage, he and his dancers let loose and turned the room into a dance party with a trio of GOT7 songs to close the night: “PAGE,” “Thursday,” and “Before the Full Moon Rises.” JAY B tossed towels into the crowd, handed fans the mic to sing along, and got with the Texas program by swapping his hat for a Buc-ee’s bucket hat and a classic cowboy hat. After wrapping up the fun and saying his goodbyes, JAY B danced his way off stage and ended the night with one final cheer from the crowd.

Strong live vocals, unscripted humor, and plenty of time spent having fun with fans made the “tape: roots” Tour a clear win for JAY B and Dallas Ahgase. JAY B said he took his time preparing before coming back to the U.S., and it showed. Between the new tracks from TR.EE, the older favorites, and the GOT7 encore, the show gave fans a full picture of who JAY B is as an artist and a performer. After a rocky last visit, this tour put him back on solid ground in the U.S., and Ahgase are already looking forward to his return.
