Ruel is Kicking His Feet and Screaming in Manchester

Sally Jane•

Australian singer and songwriter Ruel brings his ‘Kicking & Screaming’ tour to Manchester’s New Century Hall.

Opening for Ruel is American indie-pop artist Sadie Jean. Despite a catalogue with many sad songs, Sadie Jean brings high energy to her performance. She flows across the stage with purpose, it’s mesmerising. It’s not Sadie’s first time in the UK however, across her previous visits she’s built a loyal fanbase, ‘Sadie’s Spoons’ are a lively presence in the front row; their excitement is contagious. Her performance is incredible, her lyrics relatable, Manchester is already anticipating her return.

Ruel’s entrance to the stage later in the evening brings the crowd alive. Ruel brings a cool, yet soulful atmosphere to the beautiful room that is New Century Hall. The tour, named closely after his latest album ‘Kicking My Feet & Screaming’, has Ruel kicking his feet across the stage, and the crowd screaming his lyrics straight back to him; they are empowered by his every movement. The spirit Ruel has on stage is matched by every person in the room, completely and utterly invested in the music and words they’re singing. Their energy makes it a concert that will be on everyone’s minds for a long time.
